Kennett-The Town Under Shasta Lake is the story of a 19th century copper mining ghost town in Northern California that now lies 400 feet underwater in Shasta Lake behind Shasta Dam. The area where Kennett existed is steeped in history. First it was a Wintu Native American village. Then in the California Gold Rush era it was known as Backbone. And finally when the railroad arrived, it was named Kennett. And here the story begins before Kennett was submerged underwater and became a ghost town after the end of World War II.
